Why Hydration Is So Important

the importance of proper hydration in Milwaukee

They say eight glasses of water per day will keep you healthy and hydrated. This is a good guide, but truthfully the amount of water you should take in will vary person to person. We know staying hydrated is incredibly difficult to keep up with – that’s why we developed the Aspen Hydration/Vitamin B Program. Today, we’d like to take the opportunity to write about why staying hydrated is so important to your overall health, and how our Hydration/Vitamin B Program can help patients throughout Milwaukee.

What’s the big deal about water?

To start, your body weight is more than 50% water. Each cell, tissue, and organ needs water to function properly, so it’s essentially for you to live well. Just as your body processes food to gain nutrients, your body also processes water. Also like food, water isn’t something you can drink once in a while and think you’re covered. Each day, your body loses water when you use the bathroom, breathe, and sweat. Of course you’ll lose even more water if you’re exercising, when it’s extra warm outside, or if you have a fever.

How do you know if you’re not well hydrated?

Serious dehydration will show much more severe symptoms, but general dehydration can include any of the following:

  • Dry mouth
  • Sleepiness/fatigue
  • Yellow or darker urine
  • Thirst
  • Headaches
  • Few tears when crying

These symptoms can come and go as your hydration level changes. That’s why it’s important to stay hydrated consistently to keep your body happy.

How do I stay hydrated?

The most common way to stay hydrated is by drinking enough water. As we said, eight glasses (8 oz in size) of water each day is the standard amount. Some need more, but you should try to get at least that much. Drinks like vegetable juices, milk, and herbal teas can also help keep you hydrated. Keeping caffeinated drinks to a minimum is best, as they tend to make people urinate more frequently.

An alternative option is IV fluids, like those offered through the Aspen Hydration/Vitamin B Program. By injecting fluids directly into the body, you can get maximum absorption, with added benefit of vitamins. These treatments generally take about 30 to 45 minutes and require no downtime. They’re the perfect solution for those suffering from dehydration or fatigue.

Whether you’re a business traveler looking for a way to recuperate from a lengthy trip, an exercise enthusiast in need of some much needed “R+R,” or just feeling burnt out, the Aspen Hydration/Vitamin B Program can help patients in Milwaukee get back to your their best selves.
